Alright, so here I am a week later. Things have been rather busy over the weekend to be honest. If had time to write before now, I would have. However things just seemed to happen one after the other.
The weekdays since my last entry have been simple. Not to much to report. Wednesday night I did find a rather interesting fact out. At my Wednesday night meeting there was a bet placed on the table. I took it up along with 3 other people. Stating my American origin should make such a task a peice of cake. Welllllllllllll...... It turns out that it is actually quite impossible to eat a single slice of plain white American bread in under 1 minute. I know, I know. It sounds quite simple. It sounds quite easy. Yet if you try to eat it without any water and do it in under a minute. Impossible. Except, of course, if you are the 3 other competitors who all managed to do it.
It would seem the trick is to take small bites and swallow them whole. If you go for half the slice in one bite, your mouth drys out to much. Well, as I said I somehow failed where everyone else succeeded in this bet. Thus a crowd was gathered as I paid my debt (doing a rather embarrassing dance with accompaniment on the guitar just outside the bar). It was probably something that won't be leaving peoples nightmares for a long time to come.
At any rate, the rest of the weekdays were mostly uneventful. Friday night I ended up being picked up by Chris the Manny (not the American one, who went home today, but the German one) and we went into town and met up with some friends. We wound up at the Mexican Cafe and did some very sloppy Salsa dancing. And when I say we did some sloppy Salsa dancing, I mean I did some swing dancing and pretended it was Salsa.
I woke up early the next morning on the floor of my friend's apartment to Chris pouring cold water in my ear. I think it was the first time I've actually been awoken by cold water to the face. But it was effective to say the least. We grabbed our stuff and headed home. As soon as I got home at 9AM I went straight to bed. At 11:30 I woke up and immediately got dressed in all my formal gear. Saturday was Brent Martelli's wedding to Suzanne. They had been kind enough to invite me to the wedding. So Yannik was sent to stay with Mrs. Anna (who watches him every other Saturday), and I was free to enjoy the day. So, Leigh, Christoph, and myself all got in our nicest clothing and then piled tightly into Christoph's work truck. It was a pretty funny picture I'm sure. This old, dusty, worn truck, crammed with three people all in formal wear. Anyways, the wedding was beautiful. It was held at Kings College which was Brent's old high school. It is also the nicest school in Auckland, but its situated in Manakua, or "south Auckland". Which is definitely the worst place in Auckland (major ghetto). The reception on the other hand, was at the Westin Hotel in the Viaduct, Awesome! The newest hotel in downtown Auckland it had the neatest lobby which was pretty much just two large rock ponds. Very schnazzy. The hors'deouvres were scrupmtious and the company lovely. The speeches also were quite well given. All in all, a fantastic day. I love weddings. They are so much fun.
I had to return home at 10 so I could releave Mrs. Anna, and watch the sleeping Yannik. The next morning I woke and immediately watched Yannik for 3 hours. Just to help out. We were going to go to the movies, but found out that they were sold out. So instead I took him to Mission Bay for some ice cream. After asking for several extra napkins, however I quickly found I had majorly underestimated Yannik's ability to be extremely messy. So I thought "no worries, we will wash his hands off in the ocean". Not such as good idea as it turned out. As soon as Yannik was brought to the waters edge he went straight in. Clothes and all. Lesson Learned! So we soon were walking up and down Mission Bay (by all the beautiful people) in drenched clothing trying to dry ourselves in the sun. When I returned home I dropped Yannik off and hopped back in the car. I went down to Takaninni where Racheal lives for a BBQ. It was another great day to add to a great weekend. We played some water volleyball, rediscovered our love of the hooly hoop, and made/attempted a five man hand stand line. At the end of the night I even taught the game Mafia, and we played that. I felt like I was in middle school all over again. Again a fantastic day filled with much meat eating (always a plus).
Monday was the 2nd night of my Improv Lvl 2. It was a good time. I wasn't at my best, but I wasn't to weak either. Its always good to have those nights so you realize just how much you still have to learn.
Well that mostly updates you guys on things. Yannik was incredibly noisy today and this evening. Boy it was rattling. But now he is in bed, and I am off to shoot some pool with a friend. Till next time guys. All the best. I'm missing you.
